ITINERARY

Day 1: Marrakech  - Ait Ben Haddou - Rose Valley (1xL, 1xD)

Your driver and guide will pick you at your hotel at 9 a.m. and together you start the trip to the South. You will pass the fruitful Ourika valley and climb the winding road to the pass Tizi n´Tichka (2,260m), the highest one in Morocco. Right after, the countryside and architecture change completely – you are in the Moroccan South!

Now you will leave the main road and follow the ancient caravan path through the unique nature of the Ounila valley. You will pass many traditional Berber villages where houses are still built just from stones or clay and around lunchtime arrive in Ait Ben Haddou , an old fortress (kasbah) which has been listed as a UNESCO sight and become one of the symbols of Morocco. After climbing the top of the kasbah you will enjoy your lunch in a nice guesthouse with a view over the river.

Only two hours drive in the afternoon and you arrive in the Valley of Roses. Here in a small Berber village at the Mgoun river, far away from mass tourism you will spend the night in a lovely restored old kasbah. The owners work closely with the village community and if you are interested, they will be happy to share a lot from Berber culture with you.

Depending the time and your preferences, together with your guide you might go for a short walk to explore the village and fields around the river or visit a cooperative which produces rose water and oils from the locally grown rose flowers. Delicious diner served to you at the terrace or in the tasteful salon will top off the wonderful day.

Driving time: 6 - 7 h

Day 2: Rose Valley – Gorge Todgha – sand dunes of Erg Chebbi (overnight in Berber camp) (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

Saying goodbye to the Rose Valley today you will start a real adventure. If the weather is good and dry your driver might take you on an off-road path deep into the surrounding mountains where you will meet with the nomads and finally arrive in the valley of Dades river. The nature of the area is unusual and you will have many opportunities to take truly unique pictures.

Around lunchtime you reach gorge Todgha whose walls are up to 400 meter high. After an easy walk around the gorge your lunch is prepared in a guesthouse in the middle of an ancient Berber village. You will appreciate the colourful interior, quiet atmosphere as well as delicious meal prepared by the owner´s wife.

Three more hours drive in the afternoon and on horizon you already see another highlight of the tour – the orange coloured sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.  Around 5 p.m. you arrive in Hassilabied a small village at the edge of desert and then you start! On your camel and in caravan led by an experienced cameleer you will walk for about one hour deep into the sand dunes. Depending on the time of the year you will stop at a nice place to observe the sunset.

The Berber camp itself is located at the edge of the sanddunes and  a place you probably imagined when reading One Thousand and One Nights stories. Cheerfully decorated tents equipped with comfortable beds, carpets to sit or lay down directly in the sand and a delicious diner will make this evening to a unique experience. Should there be no wind a campfire will be lightened, and you will have opportunity to practice Berber dances and listen to traditional music performed by your hosts. Before sleeping, don´t forget to look to the sky full of stars. They shine more then in the city and many times you see the milky way too.

Camel ride: 1 - 1,5 h

Driving time: 5 - 6 h

Day 3: Hassilabied - Nkob – Marrakech (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

Be an early riser today and get up before sunrise. Even when the sky is cloudy the desert in the morning always looks magical as the sand changes colours from light pink to orange. Choose some higher dune in the area, enjoy the moment or make some beautiful pictures before you take your camel back to the hotel where a rich breakfast is already prepared and where you have the possibility to take a shower.

Right after you will start a long drive to Marrakech. However, don´t worry, interesting spots that you will pass, for example the volcanic mountains of Jebel Saghro or the huge date oasis at the river Draa will still make the day to be an interesting experience full of impressions. You will stop for a delicious lunch in a lovely guesthouse in Nkob and arrive back in buzzing Marrakech around 8 p.m.

Driving time: 9 h

WHAT TRAVELERS SAY ABOUT OUR SAHARA TOURS

“Our trip with BerberTrekking.com was and stays an unforgetable experience of Morocco. We got a professional service from our guides Tereza and Mohamed and felt safe with our driver Brahim. We experienced real Morocco, got private tour through Marrakech, passed the highest pass in Morocco, visited Ain Ben Haddou, danced with locals in a small village in Rose Valley and explored Merzouga desert. The highlight was the desert, where we spent a night and enjoyed a day-trekk. We had a lot of fun.
Thanks, děkujeme, shukran, tenmirt”
