ITINERARY

Day 1: Marrakech (Asni) - Imlil - Tacheddirt (1xL, 1xD)

In the morning we pick you up at your hotel in Marrakech and we drive to Imlil, the base camp for most of the hikes in the area. We meet with our mules and accompanying local support team and start the hike through the valley towards Tascheddirt, some 10 km from Imlil. Soon the trail begins to rise as we climb up to the pass at Tizi n'Tamatert (2,279m). We then descend to the pretty village of Ouaneskra and continue for a further half-hour or so to Tacheddirt (3,000m), where we spent the night in a guesthouse.

Approx 5-6 hours walking.

Day 2: Tacheddirt - Azib Likemt (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

We begin a long, slow ascent to the pass at Tizi Likemt (3,555m). This section can be quite challenging as the trail is a little bit stony but at the top we are awarded with the first view over Toubkal in all its glory.. We continue a long downhill descent to the village of Azib Likemt, where we stay for the night.

Approx. 5-6 hours walking.

Day 3: Azib Likemt - Tizi n'Ourai - Amsouzert (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

This long but relatively easy day takes us through a variety of contrasting landscapes. From Tizi n’Ououraine (3,120m) we enjoy further views of the Toubkal range, including the summit, the east face and the Ifni Dome (3,876m). The trail leads on towards Amsouzert, one of the most striking villages in the region, where we spend the night in a simple but very friendly guest house.

Approx. 5-6 hours walking.

Day 4: Amsouzert - Ifni Lake (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

To the west from Amsouzert there are several small villages, which we explore on our way towards Ifni Lake, the only lake in the range. It is a memorable sight, surrounded by rocky mountains and is unusually deep. We expect to arrive by lunchtime and spend the afternoon relaxing by the shores of the blue water. We sleep tonight close to the lake in tents or in a simple refuge.

Approx. 4-5 hours walking.

Day 5: Ifni Lake – Toubkal’s refuge (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

By now we should be both fit and acclimatised, and ready to tackle the hardest day of the trek. We make our way along a steep path that leads up a long scree slope. We reach the pass at Tizi n'Ouanoums (3,664m), a narrow ledge between two shafts of rock. From here it is a long zigzag descent to Nelter Hut, a mountain refuge where we spend the night.

Approx. 5-6 hours walking.

Day 6. Toubkal Summit - Aremd(1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

We leave before dawn, following a well-worn route to the summit. If conditions are good it should take no more than 3-4 hours to reach the summit, where we enjoy expansive views of the entire Atlas range and the Marrakech plains beyond. Returning to base, we then descend fairly rapidly to the villages of Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd a picturesque village hanging over the Toubkal valley where we spend the night in a friendly guest house.

Approx. 6-7 hours walking.

Day 7: Aremd – Tamsould (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

From Aremd, we continue towards Imlil. We ascend to Mezzik (2,500 m) and continue through deep juniper forests to Tamsould. Tonight we sleep in a refuge in Tamsould.

Approx. 6 hours walking.

Day 8: Tamsoult – Azzaden Valley - Tizguin Tikkent(1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

We leave Tamsoult and continue through the Azzaden Valley along the river towards Tizi Ousssem. The highest peak of today is Tougdalt Pass (2,700 m). In the afternoon we get to the village of Tizguin Tikkent where we spent the night.

Approx. 5-6 hours walking.

Day 9: Tizguin Tikkent – Assaka River – Tizi Teouti – Tiziane (1xB, 1xL, 1xD)

Starting from the village of Tizguin Tikkent we continue towards and along the river Assaka. Through Tizi Teouti (2450 m) we continue to the village Tiziane where we spent the night.

Approx. 5-6 hours walking.

Day 10: Tiziane – Tizi n'Techt – Imoughlad (1xB, 1xL)

From the village of Tiziane we ascend to Tizi n´Techt (2000 m) and continue through the red juniper forest to Imoughlad. Here we say our goodbyes to our support team and the driver takes you to Marrakech.

Approx. 4 hours walking
